Recently, I’ve decided to buy the new Wyze cordless vacuum. I’m surprised that Wyze has decided to create a cordless vacuum and I’ve been curious to give it a try. After a few months, here is my comprehensive review.
Wyze Cordless Vacuum Review
1. Works great on bare floors, not so much on carpet
The suction of this vacuum is WAY better than I thought. In Turbo mode, the suction is powerful and cleans up heavier objects with no problem. On Medium, the vacuum can overall suck up everything I need. On Eco mode, I found it to not be very helpful. The medium setting is what I’ve been using the most.
On hard floors, the Wyze cordless vacuum has no problem moving and picking things up, but on carpets, it struggles A LOT. Even on the lowest carpet, I struggle to move the vacuum around.
On medium/higher carpets, the vacuum is almost impossible to move. The Wyze cordless vacuum also makes a whistle sound when moving around on carpets which gets annoying at times.
In short, the Wyze cordless vacuum works fine on bare floors but not so much on medium-pile carpet. In fact, Wyze’s support team recommends using the Wyze cordless vacuum only on bare floors and carpets with short and firm textures; otherwise, the motorized floor brush won't spin when the vacuum is turned on.
If your house has plenty of bare floors and minimal carpet, you’ll definitely enjoy the Wyze cordless vacuum, especially because the machine weighs in at just 2.8 pounds. It’s so lightweight, even old people can use it. It can reach everywhere in the house, yet powerful enough to pick up stubborn debris.
2. Battery life is not as strong as most stick vacuums
As far as battery life goes, Wyze claims that its cordless vacuum is able to last up to 50 minutes in Eco mode. In reality, it lasted 22 minutes in Medium mode and less than 10 minutes in Turbo mode.
I'm sure you can get 50 minutes out of the battery in Eco mode but let's be realistic, who's using the lowest setting? I'm sure that you’re looking for full power, “suck anything and everything” mode when you plan to use a cordless vacuum to clean your entire house.
I found only the Turbo mode to be useful but it doesn't last for even 10 minutes. In fact, the most I was able to get out of the Wyze cordless vacuum’s Turbo mode was 9 minutes and 52 seconds.
Every Lithium-ion battery degrades over time, and the good news is that you can purchase a new battery instead of an entirely new vacuum. In fact, you can purchase an additional battery pack and swap batteries, but I still think that’s a pain to do in-between cleaning.
There’s definitely room here for Wyze to improve their cordless vacuum’s battery life and I hope they do in their next iteration of the product. While most cordless stick vacuums don’t have a tremendous amount of battery life, the Wyze cordless vacuum’s battery life sits in the lower tier in my opinion.
To summarize, the battery lasts long enough for quick sessions, but you’re definitely going to need to purchase an additional battery for longer sessions. Putting the Wyze cordless vacuum on the lowest setting (Eco mode) to save battery life is not worth it and I only recommend the highest setting (Turbo mode).
3. All the accessories included are useful
The accessories included are all very useful. The charging dock is okay, it's not the best, but it's not the worst. Having to plug in the vacuum kinda sucks, but after awhile it's not that big of a deal. The lights on the vacuum head are really useful, I just wish there was an option to turn it off when I don’t need them.
As far as build quality goes, I genuinely feel that this product is really good for the price. It feels very sturdy with no loose parts at all. All the accessories click into place seamlessly with no problems.
4. Strong plastic smell (weird)
This may come as a surprise for those of you who are looking for a “Wyze cordless vacuum review” but when using the vacuum, it produces a strong plastic smell. Even after 6 months it hasn’t gone away.
I’ve never had a cordless stick vacuum produce this kind of smell. That being said, I personally don’t mind this strong plastic smell as it lends a “new” kind of smell to it (just like the smell of a brand new car), but if you’re sensitive to certain smells, this vacuum might not be the best for you.
5. The Wyze cordless vacuum is very easy to empty and clean
One positive aspect that I adore from this Wyze cordless vacuum is how easy it is to empty and clean the dust cup. All you have to do is to press the release button while holding the machine over a trash can.
The dust cup cover will drop open and release all the collected debris. Once the dust cup is empty, snap the cover back into place. Emptying and cleaning the dust cup is really that simple and I’m sure you’ll love it too!
However, there have been lots of complaints of the rubber gasket ring falling out. The rubber gasket surrounds the dust cup cover and provides an airtight seal so the machine can produce suction power. If the rubber gasket is missing, you’ll most likely experience little to no suction to your Wyze cordless vacuum.
If you decide to buy this Wyze cordless vacuum, I do not recommend tapping or slamming the dust cup cover against anything so the rubber gasket ring won't fall off and become missing. However, if the damage is done and you need a replacement rubber gasket ring, you can buy.
- Made of Buna-nitrile (also called Buna-N) for use with a variety of fluids and hydrocarbons
- Can be used across a wide temperature range from -30 degrees F (-34 degrees C) to 250 degrees F (121 degrees C)
- Round in cross-section to provide a seal between cylindrical overlapping surfaces
6. Versatile (transitions from stick vacuum to a portable handheld)
In addition to its easy-to-empty dust cup, I love the fact that the Wyze cordless vacuum is incredibly versatile. What do I mean by versatile? It means that it transitions from a cordless vacuum to a portable handheld in a matter of seconds. I’m sure you’ll agree with me that this feature is what you need.
Final Verdict
And there you have it, the Wyze cordless vacuum review. Overall, I have been really enjoying the Wyze cordless vacuum. If you cannot afford a Dyson vacuum, I personally think this is the best option out there. It’s cheap, does most jobs, looks really nice, and is built really sturdy with nice materials.
Honestly for the price, I think it’s a solid vacuum. It won’t be the most powerful option and it has some kinks for this price segment, but if you’re looking for an all-around vacuum at a reasonable price, I definitely think it's a solid competitor. Just keep in mind that this vacuum works best on bare floors, not carpet.
Sure, cordless stick vacuums are expensive, but they are incredibly convenient and versatile. Instead of buying a stick vacuum that can cost you north of $500, the $150 Wyze cordless vacuum is an affordable product that will get the job done and remove dust and debris in no time.
