Gone are the days where big brands, like Dyson, dominate the cordless vacuum market because up-and-coming brands, like Wyze, are coming up with plenty of affordable options.

In this article, I’ll break down both cordless stick vacuum brands and compare the Wyze cordless vacuum vs. Dyson to decide which product is more suitable for you. Let’s get started.

To keep things simple, I will compare the Wyze cordless vacuum vs. Dyson using four important metrics: suction power, ease of use, battery life, and value for price. Here is the complete comparison:

1. Suction Power

The Wyze cordless vacuum has three suction power levels: Eco, Medium, and Turbo. I usually alternate between Turbo and Medium because I don’t find the Eco mode powerful enough to suck up debris.

Turbo mode has the most suction power (24,000 Pa, or 150 air watts) for heavier debris, but drains the battery fastest. Medium mode balances suction power (15,000 Pa or 55 air watts) and battery life. Eco mode offers the longest battery life for longer sessions, but the lowest suction power (7,000 Pa, or 18 air watts).

In comparison, the Dyson V15 Detect delivers up to 230 air watts of suction (about 50% more suction power than the Wyze cordless vacuum’s Turbo mode). Its most recent predecessors, the Dyson V11 and V10, top out at 185 and 151 air watts, respectively. The older Dyson V8 offers up to 115 air watts.

It’s clear that Dyson cordless vacuums have superior suction power compared to Wyze cordless vacuums. In fact, the Wyze cordless vacuum only works fine on bare floors and short-pile carpets but not so much on medium-pile carpets (recommended by the manufacturer, Wyze).

Overall, the Wyze cordless vacuum is good enough for houses with bare floors and little to no carpets. If you have furry pets running around the house, you’re better off with the Best Dyson for pet hair. Likewise, if you have plenty of carpets, you should consider the Best Dyson for carpets.

2. Ease of Use

In my opinion, the Wyze cordless vacuum is easier to use and navigate. When you press the power button, the Wyze cordless vacuum stays on continuously, so you don't have to pull the trigger the whole time, one of the most common (and valid) complaints about Dyson's models.

Additionally, the Wyze cordless vacuum weighs in at just 2.8 pounds. It is substantially lighter than most Dyson cordless vacuum models. To put things into perspective, the Dyson V15 Detect weighs 6.8 pounds. Even the latest Dyson Micro (marketed as Dyson’s lightest vacuum to date) weighs in at 3.31 pounds.

I’ve also mentioned in my Wyze cordless vacuum review that I adore the easy-to-empty dust cup. All you have to do is to hold it over a trash bin and click the button. The machine will automatically empty the contents. Just be careful to not let the rubber gasket go missing, otherwise it will lose suction.

If you’re looking for something agile and lightweight, the Wyze cordless vacuum is the better option. Weighing only 2.8 pounds, the Wyze cordless vacuum is noticeably lighter and much easier to maneuver around the floor and in tight spaces compared to a Dyson. Even old people can use it easily.

3. Battery Life

In terms of battery life, Wyze says that its cordless vacuum will last up to 50 minutes on a charge in Eco mode. In testing, it lasted 22 minutes in Medium mode, and less than 10 minutes in Turbo mode.

While those numbers may sound disappointing for those of you who never used cordless vacuums before, they are pretty much the norm. The Dyson V15 Detect, V11, and V10 all have a maximum 60-minute running time (when used on the lowest suction setting), while the V8 lasts for up to 40 minutes on a charge.

That said, I would have wished to have a longer battery life. I'm sure you can get close to 50 minutes out the Wyze cordless vacuum on Eco mode but let's be realistic, who's using the lowest setting? When I whip out my vacuum cleaner I'm looking for full power, suck up anything and everything.

Both Wyze and Dyson cordless vacuums perform similarly in terms of battery life. On average, both vacuum cleaner brands will last between 50 to 60 minutes on the lowest setting.

4. Value for Price

It’s not fair to compare the prices of a Dyson with the Wyze cordless vacuum. Both vacuums have completely different price points. The Dyson V11 sells for about $600 while the Wyze cordless vacuum retails for $150.

That being said, you will notice the lower build quality of the Wyze cordless vacuum if you have ever used a Dyson stick vacuum in your life. It’s life comparing a Toyota to a Lamborghini. Just like a Toyota, the Wyze cordless vacuum can get you from point A to point B but doesn’t offer the same premium feel.

Considering its price, however, it's hard to complain. To put things into perspective, you can buy four Wyze cordless vacuums with $100 to spare for the same price of one Dyson V15 Detect.

Sure, the Wyze cordless vacuum doesn't feel as sturdy or durable as the $700 Dyson V15 Detect, but it delivers surprisingly great suction power and decent battery life for a fraction of the price.

Final Verdict

And there you have it, the Wyze cordless vacuum vs. Dyson comparison. Both cordless stick vacuums have their advantages, so one may suit you better than the other depending on your needs.

If you can afford it, the Dyson V15 Detect is better thanks to its more durable build quality, stronger suction power, anti-tangle accessories, and laser-equipped cleaning head.
