Owning a Dyson can make your house cleaning chores a walk in the park. However, it can be confusing to figure out the flashing blue light on a Dyson vacuum. Here’s why your Dyson is blinking blue:

Whichever Dyson model you have, a flashing or blinking blue light during use usually means the battery is low on power. You simply need to charge the device. On the other hand, a flashing or blinking blue light during charging usually means the device is charging normally.

That being said, the LED indicator light can mean different things depending on the Dyson model you have. In this article, let’s figure out why your Dyson is flashing blue based on the model.

Dyson V6 LED lights indicator

On the Dyson V6, there are 2 indicator lights. One on the main body (near the trigger) and one on the battery itself. Both indicator lights can flash blue and can mean different things. Here are what they mean:

1. Main body light indicator

A solid blue light on the main body when the trigger is pressed means the Dyson V6 is on and functioning normally. If the light indicator on the main body is off when the trigger is pressed, it means the Dyson V6 is in powerful suction mode.

A flashing blue light on the main body when the Dyson V6 trigger is pressed means low battery warning. The battery is running low on power and needs to be charged. On the other hand, a fast flashing blue light on the main body indicates no power or temporary fault (most likely caused by a clog in the filter).

2. Battery light indicator

  • Solid blue light on battery during use - A solid blue light on the battery when the Dyson V6 is in use means the device is working normally.
  • Flashing blue light on battery during use - A flashing blue light on the battery when the Dyson V6 is in use means the battery is running low on power. Please charge the device.
  • Flashing yellow or amber light on battery during use - A flashing yellow or amber light when the Dyson V6 is in use means the battery has no power or there is a temporary fault (the battery is too hot or too cold).
  • Solid yellow or amber light on battery during use - A solid yellow or amber light when the Dyson V6 is in use means the battery is no longer working. You will need to immediately contact the Dyson helpline.
  • Flashing red light on battery during use - A flashing red light when the Dyson V6 is in use means the battery is no longer working. You will need to immediately contact the Dyson helpline.
  • Solid blue light on battery during charging - A solid blue light on the battery when the Dyson V6 is charging means the device is charging normally.
  • Flashing blue light on battery during charging  - A flashing blue light on the battery when the Dyson V6 is charging means the device is not charging. Try reconnecting the charger or try another socket.
  • Solid yellow or amber light on battery during charging - A solid yellow or amber light when the Dyson V6 is charging means the device is not charging or there is a temporary fault (the battery is too hot or too cold).
  • Flashing red light on battery during charging - A flashing red light when the Dyson V6 is charging means the battery is no longer working. You will need to immediately contact the Dyson helpline.

Dyson V7 and V8 LED lights indicator

Both the Dyson V7 and V8 have similar LED lights indicators. The LED lights are located on the side of the battery unit (on the bottom of the handle). Here’s what you need to know about LED lights.

1. LED lights during use

  • Three battery LED lights solid blue during use - indicates the device is working normally and the battery is at high capacity.
  • Two battery LED lights solid blue during use - indicates the device is working normally but the battery is at medium capacity.
  • One battery LED light solid blue during use - indicates the device is working normally but the battery is at low capacity.
  • One battery LED light flashing blue during use - indicates that the battery needs to be charged. Connect the machine to the charger properly. Please charge the battery for at least 5 hours.

2. LED lights during charging

  • One battery LED light flashing blue during charging - indicates the device is charging normally but the battery level is currently at low capacity.
  • Two battery LED lights flashing blue during charging - indicates the device is charging normally but the battery level is currently at medium capacity.
  • Three battery LED lights flashing blue during charging - indicates the device is charging normally and the battery level is currently almost full. If no LED lights are illuminating during charging, it means the device is fully charged.
  • One flashing red LED light during charging - indicates the battery is faulty and will no longer hold a charge. You need to replace the battery.
  • One LED light flashing alternately red and blue during charging - indicates the charger is faulty. Try reconnecting the charger or try a new outlet. If both fails, you may need to replace the charger.

Dyson V10 LED lights indicator

The Dyson V10 has 2 sets of indicator lights on the bottom of the handle. The three bars indicate the battery level, whereas the filter light indicates whether there is a blockage, or the filter dirty or not fitted properly.

2. LED lights during charging

  • One battery LED light flashing blue during charging - indicates the device is charging normally but the battery level is currently at low capacity.
  • Two battery LED lights flashing blue during charging - indicates the device is charging normally but the battery level is currently at medium capacity.

3. Filter indicator light

The filter indicator light is next to the battery level indicator lights.

The filter indicator light will flash and the machine will stop when the filter is not fitted correctly or missing. Remove the filter unit by twisting anti-clockwise. Refit the filter, twisting clockwise until it clicks into place.

Dyson V11, V12, and V15 blue flashing light

The blue LED lights (one on each side of the battery) will flash on and off during charging. When the battery is charged, both LED lights will light for 5 seconds, then go out. The screen will also show the battery charge level at 100%. The machine can take up to 5 hours to fully charge.
