Both Dupray and McCulloch are two popular brands in the steam cleaning industry. Two specific models, the Dupray Neat and MC1385, are often compared because of their similar cleaning capabilities.

So, what’s the difference between Dupray Neat and McCulloch MC1385?

The McCulloch MC1385 has 2 unique features that the Dupray Neat does not have:

  • It has a dial called the Variable Steam Control. You can control how much steam to use.
  • It has a pressure gauge that tells you how hot it is.

Apart from the McCulloch MC1385’s ability to control how much steam to use, however, there are many differences to consider between the two. In this article, let’s compare the Dupray Neat steam cleaner and the McCulloch MC1385 steam cleaner.

While the above comparison table shows you the technical differences, let’s explore the important aspects of both steam cleaning machines. Let’s compare the water tank, heating time, steaming power, and accessories.

1. Water tank and heating time

First, let’s compare both the machine's water tank and heating time.

Equipped with an adequate 54 oz. water tank, the Dupray Neat steam cleaner is able to heat water to a boiling point in under 7 minutes. I tried heating it up to its maximum and the machine was able to reach 290°F.

On the other hand, the McCulloch MC1385 steam cleaner has a bigger 64 oz. water tank, but it boils water slower, needing about 12 minutes. Also, the machine was able to reach at most 212°F.

As a result of a bigger water tank, however, the McCulloch MC1385 is able to produce about 120 minutes of continuous steam, while the Dupray Neat is able to steam for 60 minutes continuously.

In my opinion, you will enjoy plenty of time to clean multiple rooms, spacious floors, vehicles, windows, and mirrors with plenty of steam to spare with the McCulloch MC1385.

The Dupray Neat has a higher maximum temperature and boils water faster, but the McCulloch MC1385 has more water capacity, resulting in a longer steaming time.

2. Steaming power

In terms of steaming power, the Dupray Neat has 50 PSI of steam pressure, compared to McCulloch MC 1385’s 58 PSI of steam pressure.

While the difference in pressure power between the two steam cleaners is marginal, it’s fair to say that whatever the Dupray Neat can do, the MC1385 can do it better.

Additionally, the McCulloch MC1385 steam cleaner comes with a Variable Steam Control feature, which you can use to control how much steam to use while cleaning.

The Dupray Neat, on the other hand, does not allow you to control how much steam to use.

If you want the technically-superior unit, you should buy the McCulloch steam cleaner.

Boasting a stronger steam at 58 PSI, the McCulloch MC1385 is better than the Dupray Neat with its 50 PSI of steam pressure. Furthermore, you can control how much steam to use with the McCulloch MC1385.

3. Accessories

The Dupray Neat comes with 17 accessories while the McCulloch MC1385 comes with 23 accessories.

With your purchase of the Dupray Neat, you will get a generous 17-piece accessory kit, which includes a rectangular floorhead, multiple extension tubes, microfiber cloths, numerous brushes, and a handy squeegee tool for windows.

In my opinion, the bonnet works supremely well at cleaning upholstery, carpets, and other delicate surfaces where direct steam would melt fibers.

Unfortunately, the Dupray Neat steam cleaner does not come with an accessory bag, so you need to make sure to place all of the tools inside of a bag or box for quick and easy access.

On the other hand, the McCulloch MC1385 steam cleaner comes with more tools. While both units come with virtually identical accessories, the MC1385 has more brushes and pads.

One of the most important tools in McCulloch's arsenal is the scraper tool. It works effectively to loosen and even dissolve set-in debris on flat surfaces super-easily. It also has a tiny hole where you can apply steam while scraping surfaces. In my opinion, this single tool is very useful to scrape stubborn and sticky messes.

With more tools, the McCulloch MC1385 is more versatile than the Dupray Neat. The scraper tool, in my opinion, makes cleaning sticky messes effortless.

4. Portability

In terms of portability and ease of use, I adore the McCulloch MC1385 over the Dupray Neat because it is shaped like travel luggage. Unlike most steam cleaners that lays flat, it stands up vertically.

Equipped with a sturdy handle and high-quality wheels, the McCulloch mC1385 moves around very well. The design is not meant to be conspicuous, but the whole thing is very portable and easy to use.

On the other hand, the Dupray Neat steam cleaner does not move as well as I would have liked. While the machine looks neat and compact, its four wheels are tiny and resemble that of an old office chair.

Another thing to note is the handle.

Compared to the McCulloch MC1385’s handle, which feels very reliable, the Dupray Neat’s handle feels clunky and often gets stuck. It is retractable, so you can hide it if you want to, but I would prefer owning a machine equipped with a strong handle rather than a stiff one. That is my preference.

While the McCulloch MC1385 is heavier, its sturdy handle and smooth wheels make it easy to move around. The Dupray Neat, on the other hand, looks more sleek but has inferior wheels in my opinion.
