7 Reasons to Use Shaving Cream to Clean Bathroom

Its purpose lies in its name, SHAVING cream. It is essentially a product that helps to make for a smoother shave, no matter where you use it on the body. Finding other uses for it has been a revelation for many; who knew of the possible upsides of shaving cream in the world of cleaning?

Shaving cream works wonders on grease stains and has gained serious traction as a total bathroom cleaner. As it is, the same cream responsible for beard-busting also contains many ingredients used in soap. In addition, the foam itself provides an optimal texture for scrubbing.

Shaving cream runs the cleaning gamut, from polishing dirty floor or shower tiles to mirrors and mildew. Want to know how? Check out 7 reasons why you should use shaving cream to clean your bathroom below:

1. Make bathroom floors shine

Bathroom floors can become gross, and it doesn’t take very long. From the cringe-worthy area behind the toilet to the constant foot (and paw) traffic that reaches all walls and corners of a bathroom’s space, shaving cream can keep a bathroom floor sparkling.

The best plan of attack is to start by using a broom and dustpan to rid the floor of dirt. Next, be sure the floor is dry, spray the shaving cream straight onto the floor, and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, simply clean and rinse. Using vinegar before spraying the shaving cream will make the floor super clean.

2. Remove smells and odors

The bathroom is where people go to do their business, so odors are bound to be part of the equation. Having a large family, several roommates, or frequent guests will only compound these smells. Bathrooms will begin to smell based on a myriad of issues, from mildew and mold to pipe/plumbing issues.

To get rid of that lingering urine smell, spray shaving cream generously all around, behind, and in the toilet bowl. Once again, allow it to sit for roughly 30 minutes. Rinse clean with hot water (use an electric kettle to get the water as hot as possible.) This technique will also help you eliminate the smells caused by mildew.

3. Polish and prevent foggy bathroom mirrors

Bathroom mirrors will begin to look dirty and gross, thanks to showers that are too steamy, droplets from teeth brushing sessions, and inadvertent touching. Despite that, shaving cream can still be of assistance. It can also stop bathroom mirrors from fogging up, making the steamy post-shower mirror a thing of the past.

Want to make your mirror shine?

Simply add a coating of shaving cream to the mirror and wipe clean with a towel. A few sprays of Windex before applying the shaving cream will make your mirror crispy clean, and for those environmentally conscious folks, try mixing one part water with one part vinegar in a spray bottle as another alternative.

4. Clean shower doors

Shower doors are notorious for becoming cloudy, dingy, and dirty. Soap scum can accrue likely, and unless you clean your shower doors frequently, i.e., immediately after you shower, all the worse. You can use glass cleaner, a vinegar mixture, and even dryer sheets. However, shaving cream is another option.

A straightforward solution is to apply shaving cream to your shower door (top to bottom,) let it sit, then wipe off using a clean towel and rinse. You can repeat the process as necessary until you’re happy with the results.

5. Polish stainless steel

The bathroom has plenty of stainless steel, from the faucet handles of your sink to the shower door handles. Chrome, as well as stainless steel, is susceptible to hard water stains.

Due to the high number of hands that turn them on and off, it’s also essential to keep them shiny and clean. Shaving cream can do this without the severity of a typical household cleaner.

To polish stainless steel with shaving cream, spray shaving cream onto the stainless steel, then, using a clean rag or small towel, simply wipe off the shaving cream. Use the shaving cream on the bathroom floor for hard water stains and allow it to sit for a few minutes. This method also works for chrome fixtures.

6. Clean toilets

Although there are products designed specifically with cleaning toilets in mind, they can take a toll on the inner workings of your toilet, specifically the gaskets and rubber seals. The headache and money associated with these inevitable repairs can be avoided.

A far less corrosive alternative is shaving cream. It will clean your toilet and also kill odors, thanks to the added fragrances. However, if you are going to use shaving cream to clean your toilet, test it first to ensure it will not mar the bowl or outer porcelain.

Next, coat the toilet inside and out. After letting it sit for a few minutes, use a toilet scrub brush like you typically would and flush to rinse. For the outside of the bowl, use a clean rag.

7. Remove mold and mildew

Mildew is the by-product of buildup from soap, shower gel, steam, and the list goes on. Your bathroom is the perfect host, given the often hot and humid conditions within. Suppose you’re experiencing consistent mildew buildup on your shower curtain and grout between the tiles. Give shaving cream a try.

We recommend combining one part of bleach with one part of shaving cream. You can mix it in a bowl, then use a spoon to apply it to the grout. Allow it to sit overnight, then rinse it off in the morning.

To remove mildew from the shower curtain, first, disinfect the curtain with a mixture of water and vinegar. Then just spray on the shaving cream and get scrubbing! Your shower curtain will look good as new.

Shaving cream is cheap and can save you money

Shaving cream is available everywhere. It’s also healthier for you and the environment, as some household cleaners contain carcinogens and irritants and can harm your septic tank as well as groundwater.

True, shaving cream may not be a natural cleaner, but it is a cheaper and healthier option for you, your family, and the environment. Now you know why you should consider using shaving cream for your bathroom.
