The Dupray NEAT is a minimalistic, yet effective steam cleaner that comes with a variety of cleaning tools. As with most cleaning machines, however, there are some problems that can happen.

If your Dupray NEAT steam cleaner is not working properly, use this troubleshooting guide to fix it. You can use the quick navigation tab below to jump to a specific problem and find the answer.

1. Dupray NEAT steam cleaner fails to heat up

If the Dupray NEAT steam cleaner fails to heat up and the status indicator light does not illuminate when the power button is pressed, it means one of three things:

  • The unit is not plugged in. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet. Make sure the power cord is not damaged. Do not use the power cord as a handle or let it hang over edges of counters.
  • The circuit breaker/ground fault interrupter has tripped or blown a fuse. Reset the circuit breaker/ground fault interrupter, or replace the fuse. If you need help, contact a licensed electrician.
  • Unit is damaged or otherwise in need of repair. Immediately disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet. Do not use the steamer and contact Dupray.

If the Dupray NEAT steam cleaner fails to heat up and the status indicator light does not illuminate orange when the power button is pressed, it means one of three things:

  • The boiler is empty. Make sure there is enough water inside the boiler. Turn the boiler cap counterclockwise and fill the boiler with 56 ounces of water. Close the boiler cap by turning it clockwise.
  • There is mineral build-up inside the boiler. To clean the boiler, Turn the steam cleaner over and empty all the remaining water from the boiler. Fill the boiler with equal parts of water and white vinegar. Leave the boiler cap open and let it sit for 40 minutes maximum. Drain the boiler, and rinse twice with water. Using distilled water prevents mineral build up and prolongs the life of the unit.
  • Unit is damaged or otherwise in need of repair. Immediately disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet. Do not use the steamer and contact Dupray.

Remember, before cleaning the boiler, make sure that the boiler is at room temperature, it has not been used for at least 8 hours, and the steam cleaner is disconnected from its power source.

2. Steam output is weak or intermittent

If the Dupray NEAT machine’s steam output is weak or intermittent, the water level inside the boiler is running low or there is mineral build-up inside the boiler. Do these two things:

  • The water level inside the boiler is running low.

To prevent weak or intermittent steam from the Dupray NEAT steam cleaner, it is recommended to use demineralized or distilled water. It reduces the chance of mineral build up and prolongs the life of the unit.

3. Excessive amount of water in steam (spouting hot water)

The Dupray NEAT steam cleaner produces condensation. It is normal for steam to contain some amount of water. However, if there is an excessive amount of water (spouting hot water), it means:

  • Water condensation in steam hose or steam hose is cold. To fix it, point the steam hose towards a sink, tub or ground and shake while pressing the steam release trigger. Continue until the excess water is released. During use, the steam hose will heat up and remove the condensation.
  • Unit is not heated to full operating temperature. Before using the Dupray NEAT, always wait for the status indicator light to turn green. The green light indicates that the Dupray NEAT has reached its maximum steam temperature capacity.

4. Accessories do not stay firmly connected to the steam hose

If a Dupray NEAT accessory does not stay firmly connected to the steam hose, it means the accessory is not properly installed. Check to make sure the accessory is properly connected.

Insert the male part into the female part until the accessory clicks into place. When properly attached, the accessory release button should have clicked into the other piece’s inserts.

5. Floor surfaces appear cloudy or streaky after using

If the floor surfaces appear cloudy or streaky after steaming using the Dupray NEAT, it means the microfiber pad is dirty or there is hard water residue on the floor or old soap residue remaining.

Replace the microfiber pad with a clean one. You can also switch to distilled or demineralized water. Any old soap residue should go away after a few passes.

Remember, the Dupray NEAT comes with 5 microfiber pads. Always use a clean pad when cleaning the floors. If you haven’t already, please learn how to clean steam mop pads the right way.
