So, is the Dyson soft fluffy cleaner head worth it?

The Dyson soft fluffy cleaner is worth it only if you have plenty of hard floors to clean instead of carpet. Not only does the soft roller glide through hard floors effortlessly, but it also picks up large debris (like pet food and cereal) without you having to lift up the cleaner head.

1. About the Dyson soft roller cleaner head

The Dyson soft roller cleaner head was invented for hard floors. It sucks up fine dust and large debris simultaneously. It has a unique cleaner head construction. Instead of a brush bar with bristles, the soft roller cleaner head uses a roller to capture dust and debris at the same time.

In contrast, the Dyson soft roller cleaner head is gentle on hard floors, yet it is tough on dirt. The soft woven nylon envelops debris, while the anti-static carbon fiber filaments remove fine dust from hard floors.

2. What is the Dyson soft roller cleaner head used for?

The Dyson soft roller cleaner head is used for two things: gliding through hard floors smoothly and picking up pet hair without getting it tangled. Compared to the standard cleaner head, the Dyson soft roller cleaner head works MUCH BETTER on hardwood and linoleum floors due to its smooth glide.

Here are some of the benefits of the Dyson soft roller cleaner head:

  • Cleans dust and debris from hardwood floors without scratching the oil finish.
  • Cleans hard floors without kicking bits of pieces (pet food and cereal) around.
  • Picks up dust from hard floors without damaging the surface.
  • Reduces the risk of getting pet hair or long hair tangled.
  • Less audible noise because it glides through hard floors.

In a nutshell, the Dyson soft roller cleaner head is used to pick up dirt, including larger items like pet food and cereal, from hard floors. Due to the soft roller, it glides through hard floors without damaging the surface.

3. Can you use the Dyson soft roller cleaner head on carpet?

The Dyson soft roller cleaner head is designed for hard floors. While you can use it on low-pile carpets, you will have difficulty using it on medium to high-pile carpets. The standard cleaner head is better for carpets.

If your house is full of carpets, especially high-pile carpets, there is no need to invest in the Dyson soft roller cleaner head. It will cause you more trouble than comfort because the tool won’t glide smoothly.

4. Dyson soft roller cleaner head vs. standard cleaner head

First off, I would like to say that the Dyson V6, V7, V8, V10, and V11 work really well, especially against pet hair and a mix of hardwood and carpeted rooms. I personally use the V8 the most and have no complaints.

However, over time the wheels of the standard cleaner head have become harder to clean and harder to maneuver because fur has gotten entangled in the wheels. So, I’ve decided to get the soft roller cleaner head.

Notice the difference between the standard head (left) and soft roller cleaner head (right):

The noticeable difference is behind the big roller. In the standard head, there is a lot of plastic housing for the rear wheels. On the soft roller cleaner head, there is a roller of soft felt material behind the big roller.

This design works better on hard floors because it is much easier to maneuver while pushing. The soft roller cleaner head also does not “fling” stuff around like the standard cleaner head (like Cheerios or cat food, for example). If you have a lot of smooth floors, it is worth getting this soft roller head attachment.

To summarize, it all comes down to your circumstances. The Dyson soft roller cleaner head is worth it if you have a large area of hard floors to clean because the tool prevents scratches and damage on certain types of expensive hard floors, like hardwood and linoleum.

Additionally, the Dyson soft roller cleaner head is able to glide through hard floors while picking up large pieces of dirt, like pet food and cereal, along with long strands of hair without getting itself tangled.

If all of the above describes your household needs, buy the soft roller cleaner head. You won’t regret it because it will save you time and increase your cleaning productivity while using a Dyson vacuum.
