LG Front Load Washer Error Codes Troubleshooting
When the LG front load washing machine encounters a problem, it will produce an error code. This error code will be displayed on the washer’s screen. Fortunately, dealing with any issues is simple and straightforward. Here is the complete list of the LG front load washer error codes.
OE Error Code
The OE error code indicates that the LG Front Load Washer is unable to drain the water it used during the wash cycle. It can be triggered by a kinked drain hose or a clogged drain pump filter.
1. Check for a kinked drain hose
Check behind the washer to ensure that the drain hose is not kinked or clogged. If any of the clogs have been removed, or the kinks in the drain hose have been straightened, run a spin cycle to confirm that the OE error code has been resolved or not.
2. Test the drain pump
If the drain is not kinked, run a spin cycle to test the drain pump. Press POWER to turn the washer on. Press the SPIN SPEED key until HIGH is selected. Press the START/PAUSE button to start the SPIN ONLY cycle.
Listen to hear a humming sound which indicates that the drain pump motor has started working. During the test above, a humming sound, and possibly the sound of water draining will be heard for the first 15 seconds.
IE Error Code
An IE error code indicates that the LG front load washer was unable to fill with water. During cold and freezing weather conditions, an IE error code could mean the water in the water supply lines are frozen. Once the temperature increases above freezing, the water supply will resume.
Check the water supply faucets behind the washer to make sure they are fully open. Check the fill hoses for kinks or freezing (in winter). Check the screens on the water inlet valves for debris or deposits. Replace the water inlet valve assembly if the water inlet screens are clogged.
1. Reinstall the drain hose correctly
Make sure the drain hose is installed correctly. Clip the end of the hose into the elbow bracket. Connect the elbow bracket within 4 inches (10 cm) of the end of the drain hose. Insert the end of the drain hose into the stand pipe. Use a tie strap to secure the drain hose in place.
Remember, if the drain hose is extended more than 4 inches (10 cm) beyond the end of the elbow bracket, mold or microorganisms could spread to the inside of the washer.
2. Make sure the water supply tap is open
Check the water supply faucets behind the washer to make sure they are fully open. If both the hot and cold water taps are not fully open, the IR error code will appear on the LG Front Load Washer display.
3. Check for kinked or damaged inlet hoses
Check the fill hoses for kinks, damage, or freezing (in winter). If the washer’s inlet hoses are kinked or damaged, water may not flow properly into the washer. Straighten out any kinks that may be in the water lines. If the inlet is damaged, they will need to be replaced.
4. Make sure inlet filters are not clogged
Turn off the home’s cold and hot water supply taps or valves. Remove the water inlet hoses from the washer. Ensure you have a bucket to drain the remaining water from the hoses.
Check the inlet filters on the inlet valves of the washer, inspect for any mineral deposits or other debris that may be clogging them. If the filters on the inlet valves or hoses are clogged, remove them and clean them.
5. Do not use FloodSafe hoses
Using FloodSafe hoses may not be compatible with LG Front Load Washer. The inlet valve on the LG Front Load Washer opens quickly, supplying instant water pressure. This instant water pressure may trigger FloodSafe hose to close as if there were a leak to shut off the water supply.
It is recommended to not use 3rd part hoses. If the IE error code persists as a result of using 3rd party hoses, please use the LG hoses that were supplied with your LG Front Load Washer.
UE or Ub Error Code
Certain load types may not distribute the weight of the load evenly, resulting in an unbalanced load and the uE/UE error code. For small loads, even distribution does not happen as easily as on normal loads.
Clothing will clump together throwing the weight of the drum off during the spin cycle. Single, bulky items and mixed fabric loads, like jeans and t-shirts, can also cause unbalanced rotation of the drum. Rearrange the items in the drum, and restart the cycle.
Large single items such as sheets, blankets, or comforters can cause the UE or Ub error due to the uneven spread across the surface of the drum. Rearrange the items in the drum, and restart the cycle.
CL Error Code
CL is not an error code. It is an indicator that the child lock feature is set active. When the child lock feature is active, the control panel will be disabled and the settings cannot be adjusted.
To fix this, press and hold the child lock button for 3 seconds. The position of the child lock button will vary depending on the model of your LG Front Load Washer machine.
LE Error Code
An LE error code on the LG Front Load Washer’s display indicates that the motor is locked, possibly due to a heavy wash load. Large and heavy sized loads will put a strain on the motor, causing the LE error code to occur. Performing a reset on the washer will normally resolve this issue.
To reset the LG front load washing machine, press POWER to turn the washer off. Unplug the washer from the power outlet or turn the circuit breaker to the unit off. With the power disabled, press and hold the START/PAUSE button for 5 seconds. Plug the washer in, or turn the circuit breaker on.
If washing a heavy or large load, reduce the load size and attempt to restart the cycle. The washer should now be reset and LE error code cleared. If the LE error code displays on every washing cycle, the LG front load washing machine will require a repair service.
t CL Error Code
A t CL error code means it is high time to run the tub clean cycle.
Empty the tub, insert bleach into the detergent dispenser, and select the tub clean cycle. To skip the tub clean cycle, turn the cycle selector knob, or push options buttons to select the desired cycle. The reminder message reappears for a few wash cycles, then disappears until the next scheduled tub clean cycle.
dE Error Code
The dE error code means the LG front load washing machine’s door was unable to lock. This can normally be resolved by performing a simple reset on the washing machine.
Press on the door firmly and select any cycle. The washer door should lock, and the cycle should begin without an error code appearing on the display. If the cycle does not begin and the dE code appears again, repair service is required. Please visit the LG Request a Repair page.
CE Error Code
The CE error code on the LG Front Load Washer’s display indicates that there is an overcurrent in the electrical circuit of the motor. It is caused by a short circuit, loose connection, ground fault or power surge.
To fix this, unplug the LG front load washing machine for 10 seconds. Plug the washer back in and attempt to run a cycle. If the CE error code persists, close the water tap and unplug the washer. The unit will require a repair service. Please visit the LG Request a Repair page.
Sud Error Code
When the LG front load washing machine detects too many suds, it will display the Sud error code, and add a suds reducing cycle. This adds about 2 hours to the cycle time. If too many suds are detected during spinning, the LG top load washing machine will stop to help prevent leaking.
It is recommended to reduce the amount of detergent used until there is no more sudsing. Do not add more than the manufacturer’s recommended quantity of detergent. You can learn more about it here.
Cd Error Code
Cd is not an error code, but an indicator that the drying cycle is completed. It actually means “cool down” when displayed on the display. Cool down is set automatically when the drying cycle is completed.
When the clothes are not removed properly, wrinkles can form. The cool down feature periodically tumbles, rearranges, and fluffs the load to avoid wrinkles formation for up to 4 hours. The message will continue to display until the clothes are removed, or the START/PAUSE button is pressed.
dE1 Error Code
The dE1 error code indicates that the LG Front Load Washer’s door is open and not locked. The error may look like dE1, del, or dEL on your unit’s display depending on the washing machine model.
To fix this, unplug the washer for 10 seconds. Plug the washer back in, ensure that the door is completely closed, and restart the cycle. If the dE1 error code persists, close the water taps and unplug the washer. The unit will require a repair service by a professional technician.
dE2 Error Code
The dE2 error code indicates that the LG Front Load Washer’s door is closed, but not locking.
To fix this, unplug the washer for 10 seconds. Plug the washer back in to ensure that the door is perfectly closed, and restart the cycle. If the dE2 error code persists, close the water taps and unplug the washer. The unit will require a repair service by a professional technician.
FE Error Code
The FE error code indicates that the LG Front Load Washer is overfilling. This is usually the result of a faulty water valve. To fix this, close both water taps. In order to drain out any trapped water, power the washer back on, and press the spin speed button until no spin is selected, and press the START/PAUSE button.
Once the water has drained, restart the washing cycle on the LG front load washing machine. If the FE error code persists, the unit will require a repair service done by a professional technician.
PE Error Code
The PE error code indicates that the water level sensor is malfunctional. To fix this, unplug the LG front load washing machine for 10 seconds. Plug the washer back in, and restart the cycle again. If the PE error code persists, the unit will require a repair service by a professional technician.
PF Error Code
The PF error code indicates a power failure. This may occur if the power supply to the LG Front Load Washer is interrupted during a cycle from power outage. To fix this, simply restart the washing process.
tE Error Code
The tE error code indicates a heating error, usually caused by a faulty thermistor. To fix this, unplug the washer for 10 seconds. Plug the washer back in, and press the power button. Press the SPIN SPEED button until NO SPIN is highlighted. Once the washer is drained, restart the washing cycle process.
If the tE error code persists, close the water taps and unplug the LG front load washing machine. The unit will require a repair service by a professional technician.
Time Does Not Advance
The LG front load washing machine takes into account variables such as cycle selected, the load size, load weight, fabric types, fabric thickness, amount of suds, water temperature and more.
These variables may extend the cycle duration as it may require more water, take more time to absorb the water and take longer to drain and spin.
Buttons Don't Respond
If the cycle already started before buttons stopped responding, you may be pressing some options that cannot be added, or the child lock option is on. If you are unable to select certain options, understand that not all options are available with every cycle, and not all options can be selected at the same time.
For example, on some models steam cannot be activated with water plus. But if the unit powers on, but none of the buttons respond, the unit may require a repair service.
If the child lock option is on, you will see the CL message on the display. This means the control panel is locked to prevent tampering with a currently running wash cycle. It must be deactivated before any other buttons other than the power key will work.
Child lock is usually turned on and off by pressing either the PRE-WASH or TUB CLEAN button for 3 seconds. On some models, the OPTION button is used to activate and deactivate this feature.
However, if the buttons are not responsive and the child lock option is not engaged, a repair service may be required to resolve this issue on the LG front load washing machine.
